In-House Counsel

In-House Counsel

Location: Tampa, FL (Hybrid – In Office 3 Days/Week)

Experience Required: Minimum 3 Years

Reports To: General Counsel


Position Overview

We are seeking an experienced attorney to join our legal team. This role will primarily support the organization across three core areas: (1) legal research and writing, (2) oversight and management of litigated claims, and (3) corporate legal matters as business needs permit. The ideal candidate is a strong legal writer, comfortable working with outside counsel, and capable of handling a diverse in-house practice in a collaborative, fast-paced environment.


Key Responsibilities


Legal Research & Writing (Primary Focus)
  • Conduct in-depth legal research on complex issues involving litigation, insurance, corporate, regulatory, and other applicable areas of law.

  • Draft and review legal memoranda, pleadings, motions, briefs, position statements, and internal legal analyses.

  • Provide clear, practical legal guidance to internal stakeholders based on research findings.

  • Monitor legal developments, case law, and regulatory changes impacting the organization.


Litigated Claims Oversight (Primary Focus)
  • Manage and oversee litigated claims from inception through resolution.

  • Serve as the primary point of contact between the organization and outside counsel.

  • Evaluate litigation strategy, budgets, and case progress; provide recommendations on settlement, defense strategy, and risk exposure.

  • Review pleadings, discovery, motions, and settlement agreements prepared by outside counsel.

  • Ensure compliance with internal policies, reporting requirements, and applicable laws.


Corporate & General Legal Support (As Time Permits)
  • Assist with corporate governance matters, including entity maintenance, board materials, and corporate records.

  • Review, draft, and negotiate a variety of contracts and agreements.

  • Support compliance initiatives and internal policies.

  • Provide general legal advice to business units as needed.


Qualifications

  • Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an accredited law school.

  • Active license to practice law in Florida.

  • Minimum of three (3) years of relevant legal experience, including litigation and/or in-house experience.

  • Strong legal research, analytical, and writing skills.

  • Experience managing litigated matters and working with outside counsel.

  • Strong communication skills and sound legal judgment.


Preferred Experience

  • Experience overseeing insurance, commercial, or civil litigation.

  • Exposure to corporate, transactional, or regulatory matters.


Work Environment

Insurance Business Analyst

Insurance Business Analyst

Location: Tampa, Florida (Hybrid)


Position Summary

The Insurance Business Analyst supports the operational effectiveness of a Florida-domiciled homeowners insurance company by focusing primarily on system testing and quality assurance with limited compliance and data analysis support responsibilities. This role partners closely with Operations, IT, Underwriting, Claims, and Compliance to ensure accurate data insights, stable system functionality, and adherence to applicable regulatory requirements.


The majority of the role will be dedicated to analytics and system testing, with compliance activities serving as a secondary, supporting function.


Key Responsibilities


1. System Testing & Quality Assurance (Primary Focus)

  • Plan, execute, and document system testing for policy administration, claims, billing, and related insurance platforms.

  • Perform user acceptance testing (UAT) for system enhancements, configuration changes, rate updates, and regulatory updates.

  • Develop test cases, test scripts, and testing documentation aligned with business and regulatory requirements.

  • Identify, track, and assist in resolving system defects and data issues in coordination with IT, vendors, and business users.

  • Validate data integrity and system outputs following system releases or updates.

  • Support implementation of new tools, system upgrades, and integrations.


2. Data Analysis (Limited Scope)

  • Design, develop, and maintain reports to support operational, underwriting, claims, finance, and executive decision-making.

  • Extract, transform, and analyze data from policy administration systems, claims systems, billing platforms, and data warehouses.

  • Collaborate with business stakeholders to define reporting requirements and translate them into actionable analytics.

  • Ensure data accuracy, consistency, and documentation of data sources and logic.

  • Support ad hoc data analysis requests and executive reporting.


3. Compliance Support (Limited Scope)

  • Provide analytical and operational support to compliance initiatives, including data validation and reporting related to regulatory filings and audits.

  • Maintain awareness of Florida Office of Insurance Regulation (OIR) requirements as they relate to data, reporting, and system functionality.

  • Coordinate with Compliance and Legal teams as needed.


Qualifications


Required

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Data Analytics, Information Systems, Finance, or a related field.

  • 3+ years of experience in insurance operations, data analysis, system testing, or a related role.

  • Experience working with insurance core systems (policy administration, claims, billing).

  • Strong analytical skills with attention to detail and data accuracy.

  • Ability to translate business requirements into technical and analytical solutions.

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.


Preferred

  • Experience in Florida homeowners insurance.

  • Familiarity with SQL, data warehouses, or ETL processes.

  • Experience with UAT, QA processes, or system implementations.

  • Exposure to insurance regulatory reporting or compliance support.

  • Experience working with third-party vendors and system providers.

  • Hands-on experience with Power BI, including data modeling and dashboard development (preferred)
